Continental Hand Carved Nutcracker c.1920’s

A finely crafted Antique Continental Hand Carved Nutcracker c.1920’s. Believed to be from the Black Forest region of Germany. This nutcracker features a gently curving handle that gives way to an incredibly detailed rendering of a bearded face. Attached via a peg, the hinged lower jaw possesses the same level of detail as the rest of the piece, down to the individually carved teeth! This finely crafted antique wooden nutcracker appears to be carved to resemble alpine villager or gnome sporting a fetching pointed cap. The angular features are well carved, imparting his face with expressive detail. The figures high cheekbones and sharp nose are complimented by a forked beard, while the upper lip appears curiously free of facial hair.

Dimensions:

This Continental Hand Carved Nutcracker c.1920’s measures approximately 8” Tall x 2 ⅛” x 5” Deep.

 

Condition:

Pre-owned, this item is in Very Good condition with wear commensurate with age. Item appears relatively unused, based on the lack of wear in and around the mouth. All carved teeth are still present and there is little to no sign of wear to the edges of the mouth. However, two small chips are visible on left side of nutcracker’s beard. Some scratches and scuffs are present. Note the minor wear to the wood on its angular surfaces. Small ding on back left part of head.
