Antique European Altar Crucifix
Antique European Altar Crucifix. This detailed religious object features a crucified Christ figure on an ornate cross. The tetramorph crucifix pays tribute to four of Christ’s disciples with symbols on each corner of the cross. Matthew the Angel, Mark the Lion, Luke the Ox, and lastly John the Eagle. The cross is joined to a rounded base on three sturdy legs for added stability. The top of the base bears a raised image of a bird bringing sustenance in the form of worms to four small chicks. Their beaks open hungrily for the gift. Stamped J.M.P.C. and Made in Belgium on back of cross.
Dimensions:
Item measures approximately 17 ¾” Tall x 7 ½” Wide. The base measures 6 ½” in diameter.
Condition:
Item in Good condition with wear commensurate with age and use. Scuffs and scratches are present. Plating is scratched and/or missing in several locations on crucifix. Several small dents visible around base. Scuffs and scratches present on base. Lastly, please review all photos as they are an important part of our listing.
