Firesky Lagoon Scene by Florida Highwayman R A McLendon. An amazing oil on canvas focusing on a swaying palm in front of a fiery sunset with a lone sail boat that captivates using rich and bold colors to create light. On the whole McLendon was more experimental in his choice of subject matter for his paintings than many other Highwaymen. He often painted portraits and still life, and many of Roy McLendon paintings are landscapes of night scenes. Artist signed in the lower right corner.

The Highwaymen artists specialized in painting Florida landscapes in a flamboyant style. As it was not possible for them to sell their paintings in art galleries and shows, they were selling them right from the backs of their trucks, that’s how they gained their name – Highwaymen.
