Royal Poinciana by Florida Highwayman Issac Knight. This oil on Masonite painting revolves around the striking Poinciana tree situated by a river. Artist singed bottom right corner using palette knife to score name into the paint layer. An outstanding use of color captivates and drawers you into the piece. Up close the palette knife work looks extremely heavy however, when viewed as a whole the depth created by the thick layer of paints is mesmerizing. Concerned with perfection of technique and possessing a propensity for visualizing the work, we can see in the Issac Knight paintings his ability to paint quickly and accurately which distinguished his art. 

The Highwaymen artists specialized in painting Florida landscapes in a flamboyant style. As it was not possible for them to sell their paintings in art galleries and shows, they were selling them right from the backs of their trucks, that’s how they gained their name – Highwaymen.

This oil on Masonite is in very good pre-owned condition. There are no cracks, chips or major blemishes on the painting. Frame shows some signs of wear, with minor dings and small chips. Artist signed in lower right hand corner.
