The Golden Rod by Wendell Thompson Perkins is a lovely primitive style oil on linen canvas. Artist signed in paint on the bottom right corner the painting depicts a steam boat the Golden Rod in dock. Eye catching use of color draws the eye into the focus of the boat. The oil painting is framed in a plain gold wood frame.

Originally from Maine, Wendell Thompson Perkins eventually relocated and lived in St. Augustine, FL up until his death in 1997. Both in Maine and Florida Perkins was best known for his maritime scenes and landscapes but branched into African American scenes upon his relocation to St. Augustine.

With frame the ttem measures approximately 26 ¾” Wide x 23” Tall

Canvas measures 24” Wide x 20” Tall

Condition:

The item is in fair to good pre-owned condition. Color is excellent however, paint is missing in several small areas on the ship. A light scratch runs 1″-2” on right side of painting. Additionally there are small scuffs around the piece. The frame is in very good condition with minor loss of gilding yet there is slight discoloration in spots.
