Only 1 left in stock
A beautiful Victorian ebonized writing desk, circa 1881. This wonderful desk features a flat or sloped writing surface thanks to a drop down panel on the top surface. The small flap that usually supports this panel easily drops down via a small brass loop pull to allow the desk top to slope towards the user. Fixed pocket compartments with open strutted sides extend the surface area on either side of the desk.
Bobbin turned legs and side stretchers support the desk whilst the center stretcher is plain. Aside from the turned legs the stylistic flair comes from the carved sections around the front of the desk and on small portions of the legs. Nature inspires the carved features as they display scroll like leaves and flower embellishments. This lovely writing desk also comes with a photograph of the desk in its first home which is undoubtedly a wonderful piece of providence for the piece. The item has been in the same family ever since.
30” Tall x 42” Wide x 27 ½” Deep
The writing desk is in good pre-owned condition and is structurally sound. There are scratches and dings upon the wood from wear commensurate with age and use. In particular there is some corner wear and loss of color on small areas on the top of the desk along with scratches and indentations from use. The legs also feature some corner wear on the decorative cubes. Lastly, please view all photographs and they serve as an extension to the description and condition report.
