Vintage Double Sided Silk Screen Folding Hand Held Fan
Only 1 left in stock
A vintage silkscreen double-sided folding handheld fan, depicting a landscape on either side. The front side of the fan features a bare landscape outside of a city’s walls, with a scattering of people and a horse and carriage, affixed to the decorative folding fan blades. The design depicts a simplistic Asian-style landscape on the reverse side, along with plane fan blades. The blades have an intricate filigree cutout design, with one side embellished with gold-tone paint. The fan ribs are hidden between the two pieces of fabric artwork.
Featuring a tortoiseshell coloring, the exterior of the fan is decorated with floral motifs. Engraved, then filled with gold-tone paint aid in highlighting the pattern. A gold-tone loop sits at the pivot point of the item.
Closed the fan measures 9 1/2″ long including the loop x 1 1/4″ wide.
The fan is approximately 16 1/2″ across when fully open.
Pre-owned, the item is in fair condition, with no holes, large tears, or obvious repairs. Signs of wear are indicative of the age and use of the item. The fabric’s edge shows the greatest wear, with small tears beginning to appear along the creases of the fold. Minor fraying and discoloration are also present here. The artwork is clear and viable, however, slightly perhaps in need of professional cleaning. Also, the gold-tone motifs feature minor fading and surface scratches, again most likely from use.
