Description

A vintage Masuo Japan hot dog rod friction tin toy car. A cool hot rod style collectible with a fantastic example of lithograph graphic design. Propelled by friction power from pulling the toy in reverse, the motor subsequently powers the vehicle. Manufactured by the Masuo Toy Co. in Japan. Makers mark appears on the rear of the toy next to the left tail light. The mark reads “MS” along with “Fine Toys” and a illustration of a child. Underneath the mark is the information “Made in Japan” and “Art. No. 86”. The windshield tilts forward.

Founded in the 1950s, Masuo, also identified as Masuya, was a small Japanese toy maker best known for their mechanical and friction toys marked with an SM or MS logo. Little is know of the company’s existence after the 1960’s.

Item measures approximately 8” Long x 3 ½” Wide x 4” Tall

Condition:

Pre-owned, this vintage Masuo Japan hot dog rod friction tin toy car is in fair condition with wear commensurate with age. Unfortunately the toy is missing the dog that used to drive the vehicle, along with the steering wheel. Had it not been for this, the item would be considered in good condition. The tin bumper, headlights and exhaust all show signs of tarnish. Minor paint abrasions are present of the lithograph design. Discoloration underneath dash on passenger side. Some light scratches on base. Tires in good shape. Friction motor works.
