Description
Patchboxes are small, decorative boxes used to hold fabric patches, a popular Georgian fashion accessory worn by high society. These beauty patches—also referred to as “mouches,” the French word for “flies”—were made of fabrics like silk and velvet. They were adhered to the face with mastic or saliva as decorative beauty spots or used to cover blemishes.
Measurements are 1 ⅝” length, 1 ¼” depth, and ⅞” height. Condition is very good for its age. However, there is visible crazing throughout and the piece has been restored with a new mirror. This is a rare, highly collectible piece that is over two centuries old, and it has been priced accordingly. Please review all photos carefully, as all sales are final.
