Hand-carved Rosewood Palace Screen, Mother of Pearl Inlay
$6,000.00
This hand-carved Asian palace screen, priced at $6,000, is a remarkable example of craftsmanship and artistry. Made of richly toned rosewood, the four-panel divider is constructed as two joined sections. Each panel measures 15″ wide by 71″ tall.
The front showcases intricate high-relief carvings of unique narrative scenes, each framed with delicate mother-of-pearl inlay that shimmers against the deep wood grain. Above, finely carved birds and foliage crown the panels, adding depth and character. The reverse side presents a quieter elegance with mother-of-pearl inlaid floral and bamboo designs, accented by subtle inscriptions.
Room dividers became especially popular in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, prized for both their practical function and their ability to serve as canvases for detailed artistry. This screen reflects that tradition beautifully; offering not only privacy and room definition, but also an impressive statement of culture and design.
Condition is very good overall, with one panel showing a discreet crack that blends into the wood grain. A rare and visually striking piece, it can be found in Dealer 428’s booth #410. While shipping is available, we recommend scheduling a pick-up for this piece.
