Murano Sommerso Sculptural Art Glass Vase by Luigi Onesto for Oggetti

$1,100.00

A fabulous mid-century Murano Sommerso art glass vase, made by Luigi Onesto for Oggetti. The vase features a twisted effect and is multicolored with red, blue and amber. It stands approximately 9” tall.

Murano glass is made exclusively in Murano, a small island north of Venice, Italy. It is known for being luxurious, high quality, and hand-crafted.

Murano art glass is made by a variety of glass masters, often featuring different styles and techniques. This vase, for example, showcases a technique known as ‘Sommerso’, Italian for ‘submerged’. It involves layering contrasting colors of glass, producing the effect of one color encased within another. In this case, three vivid colors were used; layers of blue, red, and yellow blend together and create a striking visual effect.

The vase has its original label, ‘Vetro Artistico Murano’, a trademark issued under strict Veneto Regional law. This certifies that it is an authentic piece made in Murano, Italy. It is signed on the bottom by Luigi Onesto (b. 1935), an Italian glass-maker who has been mastering the art since age 15.

This piece is in good condition with no chips or cracks present. However, there is wear on the piece from age which includes faint scratches on the base, visible in photos.

Murano Art Glass Vase Luigi Onesto for Oggetti – Sommerso Twisted Multicolor Red Blue Amber Mid Century

This Murano art glass vase was made by Luigi Onesto for Oggetti and features a sommerso design with a twisted form. Murano glass is produced in Murano, Italy, and is known for its long-standing glassmaking tradition.

The vase is formed using the sommerso technique, in which layers of contrasting colored glass are encased within one another. In this example, red, blue, and amber tones are layered to create a multicolor effect. The twisted shape adds movement to the form and enhances the visual depth of the layered glass.
