Description
Patchboxes are small, decorative trinket boxes, with the purpose of holding fabric patches, a popular Georgian fashion trend. These beauty patches—also referred to as “mouches,” the French word for “flies”—were made of fabrics like silk and velvet. They were adhered to the face with mastic or saliva as decorative beauty spots, and popular to cover blemishes with.
Measurements are 1 ³⁄₁₆” width, 1 ½” depth, and ¹⁵⁄₁₆” height. This piece is in otherwise very good condition for its age, however there are tiny bubble holes on the bottom of the box, very tiny chips inside the base and on lid (both near the metal mounts). The mirror has also been replaced. This is a rare, highly collectible piece that is over two centuries old and it has been priced accordingly. Be sure to view all photos carefully as all sales are final.
